About

Two numbers decide a notebook. You are only ever given one of them.

Customized Spiral Notebooks makes bound books to order — twin-loop wire, plastic coil, hardcover, micro-perforated tear-out, tabbed sections, and recycled and sugarcane-bagasse paper.

Custom printed spiral notebooks with logo

Every notebook quote in this trade gives you a paper weight in gsm and stops there. Weight tells you how thick the sheet is. It tells you almost nothing about how it behaves under a pen.

The number that does is sizing — how far the sheet has been sealed against ink soaking into the fibre. A well-sized 80gsm page holds a rollerball on the surface; a badly sized 100gsm page lets it spread sideways and ghost through to the back. That is why people who bought the heavier paper still complain about show-through.

So we quote weight and sizing together, and we will send a sheet of the actual stock for somebody to write on before anybody commits to eight thousand books.

Why we exist

Notebooks get bought in bulk for schools, conferences and onboarding, which means they are specified on a cover design and a gsm figure and nothing else.

The predictable results: ink ghosting through a page that was supposed to be the premium option, a coil a gauge too big so the book yawns open in a bag, pages that shred when torn out because there is no perforation, and index tabs that catch on the coil because they were punched in a separate pass.

The punched edge is a hinge and a tear line at once

Those are opposite requirements and every notebook has to pick one per page.

Pages meant to stay in need the punch line further from the edge, so the web of paper between the hole and the edge cannot fail. Pages meant to come out need a micro-perforation set inboard of the holes, so the tear has a straight line to follow instead of failing through the weakest hole. Getting those the wrong way round is the most common defect in this category, and it is invisible until the book is in use.

What we actually make

Twin-loop wire with the gauge calculated from the finished block, so it lies dead flat and still shuts. Plastic coil, colour matched, which bends and recovers instead of staying crushed. Hardcovers on rigid greyboard, wrapped and turned in at the edges rather than trimmed flush. Micro-perforated tear-out books with the tie ratio set for how they will be carried. Tabbed section books with the tabs punched in the same pass as the text block. And recycled and sugarcane-bagasse stock, specified for sizing so it still takes a pen.

Rulings are lined, dotted, grid or plain, at your spacing rather than our house default.

How we price

No dollar figures on this site. Price moves with paper, page count, binding, cover construction and quantity, and it falls steeply into the thousands. Send the details and a real quote comes back the same day, with a lowest-price guarantee if you are already holding a cheaper one.

On the things that cost nothing and decide everything

A coil gauge calculated rather than defaulted. A punch line moved a few millimetres. A perforation with a deliberate tie ratio. Tabs punched with the block. A turned-in cover corner.

Every one of those is a setup decision rather than a component cost, and together they are the difference between a notebook that is still being used in June and one abandoned in October.
